Using Google Analytics to Shape Future Content & Business Ideas

Letting data guide my writing and business direction

Why I Added Analytics

This website started as a portfolio and blog for data analytics. As I build reports and write posts, I want to see what actually resonates — so I added Google Analytics to track page views and downloads.

On each blog post and project page, you can see an eye and download SVG showing that data for yourself. I'm using Netlify's functions and blob storage to serve the counts.

What the Data Is Showing So Far

It's early days, so the sample is small. But even a small signal is useful — I can already see which posts get attention and which project files are being downloaded. Over time this will help me understand what formats and topics people actually engage with.

Translating Traffic into Business Ideas

The goal is simple: if a report generates sustained interest, that's a signal worth paying attention to. Page views suggest a topic people want to read about. Downloads suggest a tool or dataset people want to use. When both are strong, that points toward a genuine need.

That kind of signal could inform not just what I write next, but what services or products make sense to build. I'm treating this as a way to keep my work grounded in actual demand rather than guesswork.

Which Reports I'm Planning Next

I'm starting with a problem I'm having: what to learn. I'm going to scrape data compliantly (or use a public API) to track thousands of data analysis roles and determine what skills are in demand.

Limitations & Caveats

I'll try to use decent sample sizes — I'm forever annoyed by claims from tiny samples. I'll also use multiple data sources where possible, triangulating to get more reliable insights in any report(s) I create moving forward. With all reporting and data, however, critical thinking should be applied, and all information should be evaluated based on the data source(s), which I will define in my reports.

Conclusion

I hope to develop and grow my career and opportunities by producing these reports, as well as improve my own data handling and analysis along the way.

I do believe there's a massive issue with clean, unbiased data on the internet, as well as with the critical analysis needed to digest what is displayed.
